WWW Wednesday – 18/4/18

Hi guys it’s Wednesday and you know what that means? It’s time for WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking On A World Of Words, the rules are simple you just have to answer these three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

literary

I have just started reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. This Historical fiction novel is set shortly after WW2 and written as a series of letters between the characters. I have only read one book in a similar format before and that was Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern and really didn’t get on with the writing style. I’m going to see this in the cinema when it comes out and know it’s a very popular novel so hopefully this time round this style of writing will be a hit with me.

What did you recently finish reading?

I have been on a bit of a Angel kick recently and have just finished Fallen by Lauren Kate and Angelfall and WorldAfter by Susan Ee. Reviews for all three on the way soon (promise).

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m really excited to read a few books at the moment, Folk by Zoe Gilbert, The Cruel Prince by Holly Black and Circe by Madeline Miller. What are you guys reading this month? Let me know in the comments.

WWW Wednesday 7th March

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means it’s time for WWW Wednesday- the meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you are planning on reading.

All you have to do is answer these three questions –

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

So here’s this weeks WWW Wednesday!

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith.

th cuckoo's calling book cover

Most of the time crime novels do pass me by but I have recently seen the BBC adaptation starring Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger and it really got my hooked in the series. I know a lot of people would read this series just caused it’s penned by J.K Rowling but I’m not one of those people. So far I’m really enjoying the first book and look forward to reviewing the BBC series soon.

What did you recently finished reading?

dead poets book cover

I recently finished The Dead Poets Society by N.H Klienbaum I caught the film starring the late Robin Williams and if you haven’t seen it go and see it now it’s a classic and has some really inspirational things to say about books, poetry and literature in general.

Now the book unconventionally was written after the film and unfortunately you can tell. Most of the time films, tv, theatre ect they are adaptations and interpretations of the novel, sometimes good, sometimes bad but interpretations none the less.

N.H Klienbaum’s Dead Poet Society is a frame by frame re-write of the film, with all the magic sucked out. The great think about reading an original novel is that you get in the characters heads, you know what they’re thinking and feeling and some that can be lost in a film; it can be interpreted in different way like through facial expressions, a touch or glance or even music… Trying to translate screen to page would be possible if the author had a little imagination or flair or was allowed to deviate from the screen play just a little but copying basically verbatim?

I had to DNF  sometimes that’s just the way it goes.

What do you think you’ll read next?

still me book cover

I will probably read Still Me by JoJo Moyes I was lent this by a friend and can’t wait to jump into it and loved the first two novels! I have read the first couple of chapters and it was great to re-visit Lou and Nathan and I’m looking forward to reading about Lou’s next step and her New York adventure.

Me Before You – Review

After You – Review

I also am planning on reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by very soon.

What are you currently reading?

Scarlett

Scarlet (Book 2 in The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer- it was a bit slow to start but now I’m half way through the book I’m really enjoying where this story is going. I’m sure I will do a full review on this book when I have finished reading.

What did you recently finish reading?

the-lesser-bo

The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride-I picked this book up on a whim in my local book shop, the plot of a drama student who falls for a much older man was interesting but I wasn’t a fan of the narrative structure.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I have a few books that I’m interested in reading next but at the top of my TBR are… The Fault in Our Stars, The Winners Curse, The Chemist and possibly Cress and The Light Between Oceans.

All you have to do is answer the three questions below and then post the link to your post in the comments of Taking on a World of Words,  so let’s get started!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

bodies of water

I heard about Bodies of Water over on Booktube and it seemed like the kind of book I was in the mood for, I have been looking for gothic, creepy reads for a while now and haven’t been able to find anything that fit the bill until Bodies of Water. It’s only 130 pages long and so far I am about 50 pages in but so far it’s pretty gripping.

It’s following two female characters who are both living in the same building one in Victorian London and one in the present day. The building where our present day character Kirsten lives is on the River Thames and was formally a hydro- therapy centre in Victorian London. So far the book seems to follow the creepy presence that is the water and the building Waterwake House provides and both characters are both repelled and drawn to it I am really excited to see where this goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

voyager

I  recently finished reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon, this is the third instalment in the Outlander series. I have a full review coming soon so I don’t want to go into to much detail just that I really enjoy this series and always look forward to Jamie and Clarie’s next adventure!

What do you think you’ll read next?

This is a tough one because I’m not actually sure what I will be reading next, I am really in the mood to read a gothic romance so any recommendations welcome! I have been meaning to read Named The Dragon by Susana Kearsley  for ages I also might read The Golam and The Djinni or The Longest Ride by Nickolas Sparks.

Hi guys! Welcome to another WWW Wednesday, this meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revived by Taking on a World of Words. voyager

I am currently reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon at nearly 900 pages Voyager is a beast of a book and quite a commitment but so worth it! It’s the third book in the Outlander series and I am just over half way now, with its mix of time travel, romance and hard-hitting drama this series really knows how to pull the dramatic punches. I love the tv series and although these books are mighty they are addictive.

letters to the men I have loved

I am also reading the poetry collection Letters to the Men I have Loved by Michelle Castro Marmol this beautiful collection of poems and letters is from the author to the men in her life past and present. From ex-boyfriends to her Grandfather this collection has had me in tears, I’m still reading it as I like to take my time with poetry but I would definitely recommend it to everyone as it’s an easy read and very relatable.

What did you recently finish reading?

Runes

I have just finished Runes by Ednah Walters a fun paranormal romance which reminded me a lot of Twilight crossed with The Mortal Instruments. Come and check out my full review here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

bodies of water.jpeg

Bodies of Water by V.H Leslie I’ve been looking for something creepy but not scary and Bodies of Water seems to fit the bill perfectly, I’ve also seen some good recs which just made me want to pick this up all the more.

After ministering to fallen women in Victorian London, Evelyn has suffered a nervous breakdown and finds herself treated by the Water Doctors in the imposing Wakewater House, a hydropathy sanatorium. Years later, Wakewater House is renovated into modern apartments and Kirsten moves in, fresh from a break-up and eager for the restorative calm of the Thames. But her archivist neighbour, Manon, fills her head with the river’s murky past and with those men of science and art who were obsessed with the drowned women who were washed up on its banks. As Kirsten learns more about Wakewater’s secrets, she becomes haunted by a solitary figure in the river and increasingly desperate to understand what the water wants from her.

I recently finished reading The Girls by Emma Cline this was such a well written re-telling of the 1969 US Manson Killings. To read my full review click here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Light Between Oceans by M.L Steadman

The Light Between Oceans

My interest in this book peeked recently when I saw the film trailer starring Alicia Vikander and Micheal Fassbender. It looks like an emotional roller coaster and the type of story that really has the potential to pull me in. The film comes out this year so I have to make sure I’m all caught up before it hits the cinemas September 2016!

WWW Wednesday – 17/2/16

Hi guys! So once again it’s time for WWW Wednesday – a meme hosted by Taking On a World of Words. (Formally hosted at Should Be Reading)

The only rules are to answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m currently reading

The Girls by Emma Cline

the girls emma cline

The Girls was my most anticipated read of 2016 and luckily I was approved to read it early thanks to NetGalley. I am only a couple of chapters in but this beautifully written story of murder and cults already has me hooked.

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

andrej bolkonskij

I have been gripped by the BBC adaptation of War and Peace and of all the reviews I have read book readers seem a bit 50/50 about it claiming it’s ‘sexed up’ for the tele (which it probably is, I mean hello James Nortan!). But I enjoyed the adaptation so much I have now started Tolstoy’s 1000+ page beasty. And I have to admit it is really great to be re-entering this world again.

What do you think you will read next?

I have been in a bit of a reading slump recently but I have a few things on my TBR that I’m leaning towards. Likely candidates are –

Flawed dragonfly in amber

Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite writers and I’m always really sucked into her stories (P.S I Love You, Love Rosie and A Place Called Here) all great examples of her work. With season 2 of Outlander hitting our screens in April I need to get on this asap, and who doesn’t need a bit of Jamie Fraser in there lives hmm?

Right, well that has been my WWW Wednesday see you next time.

Happy reading everyone!
