Top Five Wednesday- Favourite Character Names

Hi guys and it’s Wednesday and you know what that means it’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday! Top 5 Wednesday was created by Ginger Reads Lainey over on booktube and it’s now being hosted by Sam from Thoughts On Tomes, this week’s topic is Favourite character names. There are some many character names that I love so I had a wealth of names to choose from but here are the first few that came to mind.

Daenerys Targaryen- A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin

dany 3

or as she is other-wise known…

Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen

Trueborn Queen of the Andals and the First Men

Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea

Breaker of Chains

The Unburnt

Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdom

Protector of the Realm

Queen of Meereen

The Queen Across the Sea

The Silver Queen

Khaleesi of the Dothraki

Lady of the Seven Kingdoms

First of Her Name

Mother of Dragons.

Game of thrones has some cracking character names but Dany definitely wins the game of names.  (See what I did there, did ya?)

Magnus Bane- The Shadowhunter Chronicles/Bane Chronicles/Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

If I am remembering The Shadow Hunter Chronicles correctly don’t warlocks pick their own name? If so, good job Magnus Bane!

Eilis Lacey- Brooklyn Colm Toibin

An Irish name for an Irish lass, Eilis couldn’t be called anything else.

Demelza Corn- Poldark Series by Winston Graham

I always think of Demelza of a bit of free spirit, a gypsy and her name depicts who she is perfectly.

Luna Lovegood- Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

The Harry Potter series is ram packed full of great names but Luna Lovegood is my favourite she is such a great character from such a brilliant series. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of The Cursed Child soon!

Well that raps up my Top 5 Wednesday everyone,

I hope you enjoyed it.

Happy Reading everyone!

T5W- Halloween Recommendations!

So it’s Top Five Wednesday a weekly meme hosted by Ginger Reads Lainey this weeks topic is Halloween Recommendations. Now horror is not really my genre but in the spirit of Halloween I’m going to give, at the very least coming up with some spooky reads my best shot.

1.Pride Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

I’m a huge Austen fan and I’m all ways hyper critical of any re-telling particularly of Pride and Prejudice but Pride Prejudice and Zombies is a fun Austen retelling ‘Liz’ Bennett at her head strong best. (Oh yeah and there are zombies!)

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

miss peregrine

A young adult novel (book 1 in a trilogy) written around creepy antique photographs, the books are stunning to look at but if you aren’t away of the plot already they are more fun if you go in blind so I’ll save you from spoilers.

The Woman in Black by Susan Hill

The book now has a stage play and a film based off the original story, now a classic The Woman in Black is a real ghost story it’s an atmospheric and chilling read of only 140 pages staring a vengeful spirit and a young man who gets in her way.

The Shining by Stephen King

The Shining.jpg 1

The only real horror story I have ever read, and coincidentally the only Stephen King book I have ever read, this book made be scared to turn the page and to be alone in the house a great read (if you’re brave enough!).

In The Woods By Tana French

In The Woods is book 1 in an on going crime series The Dublin Murder Squad each book focuses is one detective in the squad, In The Woods is the story of Rob Ryan when he and his partner and best friend Cassie are called to investigate a murder in a small town all is too familiar for Rob. In 1984 he was once the focus of a murder investigation when he and his three friends where playing in the woods. Later – All of his friends turned up dead and he was found clinging and traumatized hanging to a tree, what happened that day remains a mystery as Rob has no recollection of the event. Now a child has turned up dead in the same woods and Rob has to return to the scene of the crime but this time as the police. To check out my original review of In The Woods click here.

1.Book Chat-

I’ve loved books all my life and never been ever to really share that love with anyone but being a member of the blogging community has changed all that. It’s such a great place to find like minded people and discover and chat about what we have been reading.

2.Tags and Memes

Getting tagged is great it gives you a chance to share and participate as well as knowing that other bloggers have thought about you when writing their posts. (Also it’s really fun :-))

3.Discovering new books-

Being a blogger, reading other blogs, chatting to other bloggers and watching BookTube videos and Goodreads of course are all great source’s for discovering new books. Also because of the blogging community I have read books I never would have done and LOVED so, thanks everyone!

4.When someone reads a book because of you –

When I read a book I love the first thing I want to do is tell people, with out my blog it’s just me holding said beloved trying to give it to strangers (non of my friends and family read the heathens!)

5.The Community-

I really love the blogging community, everyone is so giving with their time and always willing to comment and chat. It’s a really great thing to be part of, a place where we can be like minded and revel in it. I love talking to everyone one of you and thanks for all the bloggish support!

Thanks for checking out my Top 5 Wednesday see you next week! x
