WWW Wednesday 2/11/2016

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking On A World Of Words, where you have to answer these questions:

What are you currently reading?

What did you recently finish reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Scarlett

Scarlet (Book 2 in The Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer- it was a bit slow to start but now I’m half way through the book I’m really enjoying where this story is going. I’m sure I will do a full review on this book when I have finished reading.

What did you recently finish reading?

the-lesser-bo

The Lesser Bohemians by Eimear McBride-I picked this book up on a whim in my local book shop, the plot of a drama student who falls for a much older man was interesting but I wasn’t a fan of the narrative structure.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I have a few books that I’m interested in reading next but at the top of my TBR are… The Fault in Our Stars, The Winners Curse, The Chemist and possibly Cress and The Light Between Oceans.

WWW Wednesday 27/7/16

Hi guys! Welcome to another WWW Wednesday, this meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revived by Taking on a World of Words. All you have to do is answer the three questions below and then post the link to your post in the comments of Taking on a World of Words,  so let’s get started!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

voyager

I am currently reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon at nearly 900 pages Voyager is a beast of a book and quite a commitment but so worth it! It’s the third book in the Outlander series and I am just over half way now, with its mix of time travel, romance and hard-hitting drama this series really knows how to pull the dramatic punches. I love the tv series and although these books are mighty they are addictive.

letters to the men I have loved

I am also reading the poetry collection Letters to the Men I have Loved by Michelle Castro Marmol this beautiful collection of poems and letters is from the author to the men in her life past and present. From ex-boyfriends to her Grandfather this collection has had me in tears, I’m still reading it as I like to take my time with poetry but I would definitely recommend it to everyone as it’s an easy read and very relatable.

What did you recently finish reading?

Runes

I have just finished Runes by Ednah Walters a fun paranormal romance which reminded me a lot of Twilight crossed with The Mortal Instruments. Come and check out my full review here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

bodies of water.jpeg

Bodies of Water by V.H Leslie I’ve been looking for something creepy but not scary and Bodies of Water seems to fit the bill perfectly, I’ve also seen some good recs which just made me want to pick this up all the more.

After ministering to fallen women in Victorian London, Evelyn has suffered a nervous breakdown and finds herself treated by the Water Doctors in the imposing Wakewater House, a hydropathy sanatorium. Years later, Wakewater House is renovated into modern apartments and Kirsten moves in, fresh from a break-up and eager for the restorative calm of the Thames. But her archivist neighbour, Manon, fills her head with the river’s murky past and with those men of science and art who were obsessed with the drowned women who were washed up on its banks. As Kirsten learns more about Wakewater’s secrets, she becomes haunted by a solitary figure in the river and increasingly desperate to understand what the water wants from her.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my WWW Wednesday, I’ll see you next time!

Happy reading everyone!

lady midnight

I have been on such a Shadowhunters binge this month and have been totally drawn into this world again, throughout April I have managed to read City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, City of Heavenly Fire and Tales from Shadowhunter Academy. I am still reading Lady Midnight and will do a full review on it soon so I won’t say to much on it now- but I will say I have had so much fun reading this book so far. I tried so hard to stay away from Lady Midnight spoilers and this book has been an unexpected and interesting ride. Sadly I only have about two hundred pages left, I’ll be sad when it’s over but only because there is such a long wait till the next book!

Favorite poem, or collection of poetry?

Annabel Lee by Edger Allen Poe

I wouldn’t say this is neccessarly my favourite poem but it is definitly a poem that I enjoy and I have read and enjoyed Edger Allen Poe’s poetry collection in the past. Also Annabel Lee is referanced quite alot in Lady Midnight so this poem is on my mind at the moment.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
   By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
   I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
   Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
   My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
   Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea—
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Musings Monday!

WWW Wednesday – 17/2/16

Hi guys! So once again it’s time for WWW Wednesday – a meme hosted by Taking On a World of Words. (Formally hosted at Should Be Reading)

The only rules are to answer the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m currently reading

The Girls by Emma Cline

the girls emma cline

The Girls was my most anticipated read of 2016 and luckily I was approved to read it early thanks to NetGalley. I am only a couple of chapters in but this beautifully written story of murder and cults already has me hooked.

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

andrej bolkonskij

I have been gripped by the BBC adaptation of War and Peace and of all the reviews I have read book readers seem a bit 50/50 about it claiming it’s ‘sexed up’ for the tele (which it probably is, I mean hello James Nortan!). But I enjoyed the adaptation so much I have now started Tolstoy’s 1000+ page beasty. And I have to admit it is really great to be re-entering this world again.

What did you recently finish?

uprooted book cover

My Uprooted Review

What do you think you will read next?

I have been in a bit of a reading slump recently but I have a few things on my TBR that I’m leaning towards. Likely candidates are –

Flawed dragonfly in amber

Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite writers and I’m always really sucked into her stories (P.S I Love You, Love Rosie and A Place Called Here) all great examples of her work. With season 2 of Outlander hitting our screens in April I need to get on this asap, and who doesn’t need a bit of Jamie Fraser in there lives hmm?

Right, well that has been my WWW Wednesday see you next time.

Happy reading everyone!

1.Book Chat-

hrh

I’ve loved books all my life and never been ever to really share that love with anyone but being a member of the blogging community has changed all that. It’s such a great place to find like minded people and discover and chat about what we have been reading.

2.Tags and Memes

Getting tagged is great it gives you a chance to share and participate as well as knowing that other bloggers have thought about you when writing their posts. (Also it’s really fun :-))

3.Discovering new books-

Being a blogger, reading other blogs, chatting to other bloggers and watching BookTube videos and Goodreads of course are all great source’s for discovering new books. Also because of the blogging community I have read books I never would have done and LOVED so, thanks everyone!

4.When someone reads a book because of you –

When I read a book I love the first thing I want to do is tell people, with out my blog it’s just me holding said beloved trying to give it to strangers (non of my friends and family read the heathens!)

5.The Community-

I really love the blogging community, everyone is so giving with their time and always willing to comment and chat. It’s a really great thing to be part of, a place where we can be like minded and revel in it. I love talking to everyone one of you and thanks for all the bloggish support!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s theme was: Series I am yet to finish.

Alex

I am a real reading sinner when it comes to starting a series (good or bad) and absently ‘forgetting’ to read the rest of the series. So here are the top ten series I have started but erm… never quite made it past the first book (usually because I was distracted by other books) 🙂

  1. Insurgent by Veronica Roth

insurgent

I know, I know but I actually think I have a pretty valid reason for never continuing on with the Divergent series. I loved the first book but some internet person(damn you Divergent fandom), spoiled me for thing that we all know happens at the end of the third book. Ever since then I have never been able to pick up the other two, it’s the feels guys, I just can’t do it.

2. Mockingjay by Suezanne Collins

mockingjay

This is one of those rare situations where I saw the films first. The books are great but I think the film goes into the world on a deeper level than in the books. By the time I got around to wanting to read book three I felt like I enjoyed the film world more than the book world which lets be honest is a rare thing.

3. World After By Susan Ee

World after]

I loved Angel fall, it was so gross but brilliant. I read it in one sitting my eyes where glued to the pages, I was unable to move and I am going to be honest with you now it was a total cover buy so boy did I get lucky. I should have read World After by now, hell I should have completed the trilogy by now but… I can be turned off things so easily a friend of mine said Rafe (my favourite character) disappeared for the whole of the second book and that was literally all it took for me to add this to my TBR – at some point in the future just not right now pile. Read my Angelfall review

4. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Siege and Storm 2dsf

I absolutely love the first book in this series, I remember when I started it, it seemed so new and interesting. When I read the second book I don’t think I was in the right frame of mind for it/for fantasy and have actually given it a low rating. But I plan to re-read it soon and possibly re-review with plans of continuing on with this series. Siege and Storm (Grisha Book 2 Review)

5. The Lynburn Legacy by Sarah Rhees Brennan

10866624

This series is brilliant, I love the main character Cammie an aspiring journalist and her and Jared’s connection between book 1 and 2 is great it’s on my TBR and I plan to get to it soon. Unspoken Review (Lynburn Legacy Book1)

6. Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

O1

I am currently reading the second book in the series A Dragonfly in Amber so no spoilers pleassseee! Check out my Outlander Review

7. The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

city of bones book 1

I flew through the first three Mortal Instruments books and moved straight on to The internal devices (Will or Jem who can say?) But when I wanted to move onto the fourth book in The Mortal Instruments and I found it really hard to get into. It’s from Simons POV who was originally a secondary character and found it hard to make the Clary, Simon POV shift. I’m told the rest of the series is brilliant and well worth the effort and I’m sure sometime soon I will get back into the Shadow Hunters world. Really excited about the t.v adaptation that’s coming soon! The Mortal Instruments Review and my The Internal Devices Review

8.  Ladies of Lantern Street Trilogy by Amanda Quick

cg

Read the first book in this Historical Sci-Fi series a couple of years ago it’s just there are so many books so little time. Ladies of Lantern street review

9. Dublin Murder Squad Series by Tana French

ittw

I have read book one Into the Woods and book two The Likeness The Murder Squad is an adult crime series that follows a different detective in the Murder squad in each novel. Next time I am in the mood for crime I will be picking up book three a really interesting series set in inner city Dublin, Ireland and completely character driven.  The Likeness Review, Into the Woods review

10. Saga Volume 3

515jeiadAzL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

I have read volumes 1 and 2 I know that only volumes 1-4 are out I think volume 5 is just about to be released. These graphic novels are beautiful and tell a beautiful love story, I try to spread out my reading of these because I don’t want to read them too quickly THAT’S how good they are!
