WWW Wednesday – 18/4/18

Hi guys it’s Wednesday and you know what that means? It’s time for WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking On A World Of Words, the rules are simple you just have to answer these three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

literary

I have just started reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. This Historical fiction novel is set shortly after WW2 and written as a series of letters between the characters. I have only read one book in a similar format before and that was Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern and really didn’t get on with the writing style. I’m going to see this in the cinema when it comes out and know it’s a very popular novel so hopefully this time round this style of writing will be a hit with me.

What did you recently finish reading?

I have been on a bit of a Angel kick recently and have just finished Fallen by Lauren Kate and Angelfall and WorldAfter by Susan Ee. Reviews for all three on the way soon (promise).

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m really excited to read a few books at the moment, Folk by Zoe Gilbert, The Cruel Prince by Holly Black and Circe by Madeline Miller. What are you guys reading this month? Let me know in the comments.

All you have to do is answer the three questions below and then post the link to your post in the comments of Taking on a World of Words,  so let’s get started!

bodies of water

I heard about Bodies of Water over on Booktube and it seemed like the kind of book I was in the mood for, I have been looking for gothic, creepy reads for a while now and haven’t been able to find anything that fit the bill until Bodies of Water. It’s only 130 pages long and so far I am about 50 pages in but so far it’s pretty gripping.

It’s following two female characters who are both living in the same building one in Victorian London and one in the present day. The building where our present day character Kirsten lives is on the River Thames and was formally a hydro- therapy centre in Victorian London. So far the book seems to follow the creepy presence that is the water and the building Waterwake House provides and both characters are both repelled and drawn to it I am really excited to see where this goes.

What did you recently finish reading?

voyager

I  recently finished reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon, this is the third instalment in the Outlander series. I have a full review coming soon so I don’t want to go into to much detail just that I really enjoy this series and always look forward to Jamie and Clarie’s next adventure!

What do you think you’ll read next?

This is a tough one because I’m not actually sure what I will be reading next, I am really in the mood to read a gothic romance so any recommendations welcome! I have been meaning to read Named The Dragon by Susana Kearsley  for ages I also might read The Golam and The Djinni or The Longest Ride by Nickolas Sparks.

Hi guys! Welcome to another WWW Wednesday, this meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revived by Taking on a World of Words. voyager

I am currently reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon at nearly 900 pages Voyager is a beast of a book and quite a commitment but so worth it! It’s the third book in the Outlander series and I am just over half way now, with its mix of time travel, romance and hard-hitting drama this series really knows how to pull the dramatic punches. I love the tv series and although these books are mighty they are addictive.

letters to the men I have loved

I am also reading the poetry collection Letters to the Men I have Loved by Michelle Castro Marmol this beautiful collection of poems and letters is from the author to the men in her life past and present. From ex-boyfriends to her Grandfather this collection has had me in tears, I’m still reading it as I like to take my time with poetry but I would definitely recommend it to everyone as it’s an easy read and very relatable.

What did you recently finish reading?

Runes

I have just finished Runes by Ednah Walters a fun paranormal romance which reminded me a lot of Twilight crossed with The Mortal Instruments. Come and check out my full review here.

What do you think you’ll read next?

bodies of water.jpeg

Bodies of Water by V.H Leslie I’ve been looking for something creepy but not scary and Bodies of Water seems to fit the bill perfectly, I’ve also seen some good recs which just made me want to pick this up all the more.

After ministering to fallen women in Victorian London, Evelyn has suffered a nervous breakdown and finds herself treated by the Water Doctors in the imposing Wakewater House, a hydropathy sanatorium. Years later, Wakewater House is renovated into modern apartments and Kirsten moves in, fresh from a break-up and eager for the restorative calm of the Thames. But her archivist neighbour, Manon, fills her head with the river’s murky past and with those men of science and art who were obsessed with the drowned women who were washed up on its banks. As Kirsten learns more about Wakewater’s secrets, she becomes haunted by a solitary figure in the river and increasingly desperate to understand what the water wants from her.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my WWW Wednesday, I’ll see you next time!

Happy reading everyone!

lady midnight

I have been on such a Shadowhunters binge this month and have been totally drawn into this world again, throughout April I have managed to read City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, City of Heavenly Fire and Tales from Shadowhunter Academy. I am still reading Lady Midnight and will do a full review on it soon so I won’t say to much on it now- but I will say I have had so much fun reading this book so far. I tried so hard to stay away from Lady Midnight spoilers and this book has been an unexpected and interesting ride. Sadly I only have about two hundred pages left, I’ll be sad when it’s over but only because there is such a long wait till the next book!

Favorite poem, or collection of poetry?

Annabel Lee by Edger Allen Poe

I wouldn’t say this is neccessarly my favourite poem but it is definitly a poem that I enjoy and I have read and enjoyed Edger Allen Poe’s poetry collection in the past. Also Annabel Lee is referanced quite alot in Lady Midnight so this poem is on my mind at the moment.

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
   By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
   I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
   Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
   My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
   Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea—
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Musings Monday!

Happy Reading Everyone!

The Light Between Oceans

My interest in this book peeked recently when I saw the film trailer starring Alicia Vikander and Micheal Fassbender. It looks like an emotional roller coaster and the type of story that really has the potential to pull me in. The film comes out this year so I have to make sure I’m all caught up before it hits the cinemas September 2016!

Top Ten Tuesday – Books I’ve Recently Added to my TBR

Hi Guys and welcome to Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly Meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish this weeks topic is books I’ve recently added to my TBR pile.

So I have found my TBR pile changing recently go back two years and I’m sure my reading habits or regular reading would predominantly be filled with Young Adult. It’s not that I only read YA because I didn’t it’s just I really enjoyed reading that genre particular fantasy but flash forward to now and I think I have come to a point where I want to expand my reading or perhaps I already have over the last year or so it’s just lists like this that make it clear to me by how much. I still read YA don’t get me wrong and I am always looking for that Young Adult book that breaks convention and isn’t the same as all the rest but it seems the books I have added to my TBR recently are an eclectic bunch and I hope my reading habits continue to grow and change this way.

  1. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

2. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

I have recently seen the adaptation for And Then There Were None and War and Peace is currently showing on the BBC  both adaptations have really inspired me to read these novels. I might start doing an episode by episode review of War and Peace (BBC)

3. Crow by Ted Hughes

crow ted hughes

I am gradually reading more poetry I recently was gifted Grief is a Thing with Feathers which is based on Crow. I feel I need to read Crow before I start Grief.

4. The Girls by Emma Cline

What can I say I’m a sucker for a war time romance… (When I finally get round to reading this it will be my third Nicolas Sparks- Dear John and The Notebook are all I have read from his back catalog).

7. The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan

the opposite of loneliness

9. The Winter King by Bernard Cornwall

The Winter King

I recently read The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell which was adapted for television in 2015. I really enjoyed the pace and writing style so I sought out The Winter King a Arthurian Legend based novel, I’m a bit of a geek for anything King Arthur I blame the t.v show Merlin. #Fangirl

10. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

The Emoji Book Tag!

Hi guys,

I have been tagged by the lovely Sara at Freadom Library this Tag consists of my favourite and most used Emoji’s and picking books that correspond with those Emoji’s.

So lets get started…

The Grinning Emoji

grinning

I use this when I’m happy or find something funny. I don’t read a lot of happy books I read a lot of books with a serious under tone or a lot of drama going on in the sub plot. A book that made me happy is The Mortal Instruments – The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Any time Simon and Jace have any dialogue together pure comedy gold! To check out my original review click here

gfsg      cLARY JACE

The Angry Emoji

angry

Books don’t often make me angry, frustrated maybe or irritated but not angry but one comes to mind, Tyringham Park by Rosemary McLoughlin. It’s a Downton Abbey esk novel with the most annoying main character I have ever read, every decision she makes had me screaming why just why. I hated her in such a passionate way that I nearly put the book down several times. But I did finish it, and this book has stayed with me, for having one of the most frustrating main characters EVER! To read my original review just click

pb1     nope

The Crying Emoji

crying

For this emoji I have chosen a book I have read recently – Me Before You by Jo Jo Moyes.  The touching story of Lou who becomes the carer for a suicidal Will who has recently become paralysed from the neck down. She makes it her mission to show him life is worth living and learns that maybe she has a lot to learn from Will as well. This book is one of my favourite reads this year I found it so touching and even shed a few tears, it is being adapted into a film staring Emilia Clark (Game of Thrones) and I can’t wait. To check out my original review just click.

me before you 1     Crying Rose

I am not amused emoji

im not amused

I don’t like to bash any book but I just really didn’t have a good time reading Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. At the time I read it this book it was really popular and I saw so many great reviews on Goodreads and Booktube and I’m not going to deny I was totally on board with the concept but… I just found the whole thing really boring and once I started reading found it all quite predictable DNF. I know this is quite a popular book but we all have different tastes but needless to say I won’t be continuing on with this series.

Anna dressed in blood    puppy

The Kissing Emoji

kissing

For the kissing emoji I have picked The Host by Stephanie Meyer I am currently reading this book and I am really enjoying the first love triangle I have ever read that includes only two bodies. I think Stephanie Meyer gets a bad rap because of the twilight novels but I am about half way through this Alien invasion, Dystopian love story and I am loving it! Review coming soon.
