Reading Slumps, October, Writing and my TBR!

Reading or lack of…

This past couple of months has been a hard one from a reading perspective I have been a very big reading slump. I hate reading slumps, they’re so frustrating but they do happen to me now and again. I have always found that the right book normally gets me through and I have hunted high and low for THAT book to get me through my slump but it took me longer than normal to find it, so I have been suffering a bit of a drought. So September and the beginning of October was a bit dry on the reading front.

But I have recently started reading The Lesser Bohemians a novel about a drama student with an older lover- I loved the concept of the book when I first heard about it and now I have started reading it, it has the most interesting narrative structure.

Written in the form of prose, The Lesser Bohemians is more like a 300-page poem than a novel but it is beautifully written and the story is really interesting and I can’t wait to read more!

Now I am back in the reading swing of things I have some really interesting books on my TBR pile but I am particularly excited about The Muse and The Essex Serpent which I cannot wait to get too!

Writing…

Another reason for my lack of reading is my writing.

the girl

For those of you who don’t know, I am currently writing the first draft of my first book The Girl Who Fell Out of the Ocean which is available of Wattpad (I’m @paintandbutterflies). I am close to the end now with the last few chapters to go, and while writing my first novel has been a real learning curve I am looking forward to having my whole story (well the first draft) done so I can concentrate on a serious edit.

How has your Autumn reading been going? Got any new and interesting books on your TBR?

See you next time guys,

Happy reading and writing everyone xx

I love to travel – in real life and in my reading life. So it’s no great surprise that I love to read books from all over the world. Thanks to Nicolette from A Little Bookish, A Little Writerly for tagging me in this tag (go check her out :-)), it has been a while since I was actually tag but I always get to my tags eventually!

The rules are simple. List a country, and then show which favorite book of yours is set in that country. You can use the countries I have used, add your own, or use completely different ones!

March Wrap Up & April TBR

the book theif

Hi Guys and welcome to my March Wrap Up and April TBR- March has been both a successful and unsuccessful reading month, successful in the sense of I read some really great books but unsuccessful in the sense I only read three of them.

My March Reads

the girls emma cline

The Girls by Emma Cline is a really interesting piece of literary fiction which tells the story of the Manson Killings from the point of view of a fourteen-year-old girl. To read my full review click the link above, I rated the girls 3/5 stars.

cinder Luna

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder (Book 1 in the Lunar Chronicles) is a science fiction re-telling of Cinderella. Cinderella (Cinder) is a Cyborg this ongoing series is a romp which I definitely plan on continuing with. I gave Cinder 3/5 stars!

passenger alexandra bracken

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Passenger is a time travel young adult novel with an interesting premise but when it came down to the nitty gritty it wasn’t for me. To read my full review click above, I gave this 2/5 stars!

April TBR

magnus 2

As a rule, I do like to keep my TBR pretty open because as my mood changes what I like to read changes  but I do have a few books I would like to get through this April.

Currently reading

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

city of fallen angels

Ever since the release of Lady Midnight I have been reminded how behind I am with The Shadow Hunter Chronicles. I have read the Infernal Devices but only the first three of The Mortal Instruments so this month I am attempting to play catch up!

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

city of lost souls

All part of my Shadowhunters catch up plan!

The Light Between Oceans by M.L Steadman

the light between oceans

I was never particularly interested in this and then I saw the movie trailer for the adaptation of the novel which is being released this year and MAY have been brought to tears.

Scarlett by Marrissa Meyer

Scarlett

I have recently finished Cinder and cannot wait to jump into book 2 of The Lunar Chronicles.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zuzak

TTT- What Am I Reading This Spring?

Hi Everyone and welcome to Top Ten Tuesday a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish this weeks topic is – What will I be reading this Spring?

So lets find out shall we!?

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlett

I’ve recently been reading Cinder and LOVED it so this Spring I want to continue on with this series, it’s so good and so addictive!

The Light Between Oceans by M.L Steadman

the light between oceans

I own this book already and have been warned it’s a heartbreaking tale of love and loss (I can’t wait to find out, who doesn’t love a good tear jerker?)

The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry

the love that split the world

I keep seeing this everywhere and it seems like such a fun romp, right up my ally.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

It’s Cassandra Clare, need I say more?

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon

dragonfly in amber

I am slowly but surly making may way though this- it’s not as good as Outlander seems like more of a bridge to book three (but hey we’ve all been there). Looking forward to series two of Outlander starting this April though.

The Night Manager by John Le Carre

the night manager

I am OBSESSED with The Night Manager (BBC Drama) that hits UK screens on Sunday nights. Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Coleman and Hugh Laurie are delight. It’s an addictive, sexy, James Bond esk tele! I need to read this NOW!

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

I know, ambitious and I have made a (small ) start on this whopper which is probably going to take me more than just Spring . But ever since watching the adaptation of the novel of been dying to give it a go and see if I make it through.

The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis

the lion witch and the wardrobe

I have been reading this series for my Problem of Susan Challenge, now I am slightly lagging behind but I am picking them back up again and hope to make some series head way with the challenge this Spring.
